i scared the people at home depot so much they gave me a discount!

well, as promised yesterday, today i went to the dallas isd health fair. not because i was particularly trying to be healthy... see, the district had an initiative this year. if you are able to amass a certain amount of points, you will receive a $500 bonus. so i currently fall within the parameters, and should be receiving that check, now that i've gone to the fair.

so, the fair. i was given a card to take around to the various booths for initials. of course part of that involves talking to the people at the booths. every time i found a booth that was something i already do/have, it was like a wave of relief that they couldn't try to sell me something. (health fair anxiety). the only one that i was actually interested in was the chiropractic group. i actually set an appointment to go see them on the 26th, so hopefully they can help me out!
for going to the health fair, they discount it to $20 for the eval and consult
so i checked out their site, and apparently they use space technology-what does that even mean? space technology for my back...hmm. what am i getting myself into? whatever-if it helps my back to get back to normal, they can have aliens come down and walk on it...just sayin.
yes, they had give-aways. i will have to go through and look at the papers i received and see if there is anything worth looking into. and now i have a few more goodies to throw into our goodie box at school! they had some great kid things, some exercising going on, raffles-there were even some massage chairs! i wonder how many employees actually participated; it didn't look like many were there, but it is kind of an in-and-out event. i really hope several people attended, as it really did have some useful stuff!
probably one of the best things they offered was the health screening. i don't get to the doc as often as i should. so now i know my blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure...woohoo! i had no idea when i got in that line that i was going to have my blood siphoned out of my finger. maybe before i went in for the cholesterol screening, i should have started my day with nuts and an avocado instead of two pieces of bacon and an egg! :-/  WAwahh.
what a prick!
on the way back, i stopped at home depot to get those materials for the garden!
i walked into the plant-area, looking for olla pots, and they had several terracotta planting pots, but no ollas. when i asked the girl at the cash register, and tried to explain what i was looking for, she looked at me like i was asking her for a lamborghini.. so she looked for another guy and said he might know, so he was looking for the planters...and the lady said, "oh, i think i know what you mean, i have one in my window sill with a plant in it!" and i was sorry to burst her bubble, but i shook my head and said, "no. no, you don't put plants IN it, you bury it in the garden bed and fill it with water and the water seeps out gradually and evenly into the soil around it." again she had the clueless look, and they decided that there was one person who might know of what i was speaking. so when i found her and asked, she knew what i was talking about, but unfortunately, they didn't have any of these receptacles. sad face.

so i went inside and got other materials i was in need of, and had martin cut some pvc to the right length for the beds. when i went up to the front to pay, courtney, the cashier was great. another employee was walking by and struck up conversation: looks like someone has some fun plans around the house! when i explained that i actually work for the school and we are always looking for volunteers to come help out, she said, "oh, you work at a school? like a teacher or something?" yep. so she told courtney to ring up an additional percentage off through a local group discount because they were gonna help out Cabell today!

i'm pretty sure she felt sorry for me or was a little frightened of me. i say that only because when i went into the bathroom, while waiting for the rest of the pvc pipe to be cut, i looked in the mirror and scared myself. it was humid in dallas today...must i elaborate? my hair is riDIculous when it is humid out! and today was no exception-fly-away, frizzy! i believe the discount was an additional 10%; she probably would have liked to give me more because i looked beat up with that hair! so i made sure to fill out a survey and do a review for them. smiles. i am especially excited about the trimmers. i cannot wait to try them out!! i may go in early monday just for that! #gardennerd

and when i got home today, i did go back and try another glue/watercolor painting on canvas-i think i need to make two more to flank this one. i like the way it turned out.
yum
that kinda wraps it up-tomorrow will be much more relaxing than today-that makes me smile!

finish the weekend well!

i'm a great candidate! pick me!! i can also paint murals and tell jokes!

well, it's been a long couple of days, and i am tired, but i feel like i just have SOOOOOO much to do still and not enough time to do it!

yesterday i went to help procure the appropriate paints, but i really wasn't much help and although we all arrived at 10:00 a.m, we still weren't done until about 2:30! woah. and it ended up costing us a pretty penny...we may have extra paint left over if anyone from school is interested in painting a mural in their classroom! i could draw it, you'd be in charge of painting it, though!

when i got there, i noticed this in the parking lot; i guess someone was really nervous about their home repairs or something....

the colors were plentiful, but we went for basic warms, neutrals, and cools so that we could mix our own! woo hoo!!

and i am pretty sure that the home depot bathroom should win some sort of award for cleanliness of a public restroom!
this morning i got up earlier than i desired so that i could go over to the school and do some outlining for the paintings on some of our walls at school. i went straight upstairs and started my hot tea and got my projector out and went to work on the science stuff upstairs and ms. camacho went down to the kindergarten hall to do some of her stuff down there. i was later joined by dr. hughes for a bit, and later she and sandra kinda' switched out and we finished up the science upstairs and then made our way down to the front wall to work on the social studies portion.

tomorrow i am going to work on the cafeteria mural and then we are going to have to wait on the wall that looks out into the courtyard because they have to re-mud, dry and paint the wall so that we can get it ready for reading stuff...that will have to happen some evening this next week (probably thursday or friday evening..i think tuesday or wednesday we have parent conferneces. boo. you know how much i love those.

well, i would've stayed longer today, but i had my 4 hour group interview today. i can't really talk about it because i signed a confidentiality agreement, but it was long. interesting how you can feel like you did a great job, but then still not be sure if the answers were what they were looking for. (it seemed like i was out of my role plays earlier and than everyone else-which i will just attribute to being more articulate. smile) i won't find anything out until sometime in april.

the cool thing about the building we were interviewing in today was that the bathrooms have blue dye in the toilets for cleaning purposes and well, since it's st. patrick's day, it was perfect because i told you how the multivitamins make me pee fluorescent yellow...well, i didn't take a picture, but today, those toilets were looking irish!

as i was walking away from the bldg after the interview, i thought, well, the positive is that i am already putting money into savings for this program, so if for whatever reason i don't get into it, i'm going to have money for something special!

and that's all i got...trying to impress people all day long is exhausting!

witch stickers..which stickers? sticky witchers..praying angel squirrels..huh?

check out these stickers! they're the 3-d cool stickers-they are similar to the ones our principal used to put on our lesson plans last year...so i may just for kicks put some on my lesson plans or in my binder for kicks (or i might just put them in strategic places where they won't be ruined or lost or mangled!)
gigi, i might need to sneak one onto your lesson plans too...a big one.
when it gets closer to halloween, i will share some halloween memories. today i proved that not only grandparents still use the u.s.postal service!
i had a picture here, but then i realized that the address was visible, and that's not cool!

i did go to family general today for some small stuff. i love getting the small, general stuff i need there..except there was a student from last year there- i don't love that. but i did spot this great find. i asked the student, "isn't that weird?" and he just kinda looked at me like he wasn't sure if he was supposed to respond or not. and to be quite honest, i don't think i expected a response, because i don't rightly know why i even asked him his opinion-he obviously wasn't interested.
it's a praying angel squirrel with wings!
why would someone make something like that? is there really a market for this type of item?? i also found a laser pointer which i was looking for, for school (so i don't have to go up to the screen to point things out), but chaco loves it! so i think i am going to have to get another for home!
i am a kid with a new toy!
chaco basically just asked me to play with it again, so we did. it's so much better than chasing a ball 50 times in a row.
he doesn't know what to do when the light goes out-he is looking everywhere for it!
oh, i almost forgot that i also stopped at home depot today because i had to get some paint for a project that i'm working on (hopefully the rain won't foil my project)...i'm getting excited about it! can't wait to see the finished project and see if it's anything like what's in my mind. there is something about home depot (or any hardware store for that matter)...i always want one of everything. i even saw some chain links and thought, "hmm..i wonder if i need chain for anything." i went through various scenarios trying to see if it was a necessity; it's always good to be prepared, ya' know! seriously though, i looked at the power tools and the clamps and wood...i should have a project shop somewhere...that will be on my house list someday.

don't chase the little red light because it will just lead you in circles, but if it lands on your forehead, be worried, my friend,
