Easter brunch, splashing in the rain, lobster rolls- fortunate

so much going on. i have fallen behind because i have multiple irons in the metaphorical fire. let's see, how about we start with my favorite thing-yesterday i met up with my friends for lobster rolls! we did the curbside pick up thing (from different cars), then drove out to longboat key to eat them and just enjoy the bayside view from a restaurant parking lot. this was the first time mermaid's pies and produce has been open for several weeks, so it was certainly a treat!! please ask how many times i have driven by and looked for the open sign! and here's the best part- a friend had seen that i was going, because i had post something about it, and he venmo'd $ to enjoy my treat!! #randomactsofkindness #COVOD19-style now to pass along the kindness!

it had rained almost all of last week, after a long dry spell. in fact, so dry that there had been a burn ban in effect for quite some time...in fact the pond out near my parking lot looked like two big puddles, it was that dry. it has since filled in quite nicely, as it seems we are moving into some rainy season activity. also, some of the first turtles have begun laying nests.

ah, the rain!

so last week i went out for a walk and parked by the little maritime museum in cortez and walked over the bridge toward my favorite beach park because there is still no parking there, and beaches have yet to open. as i was walking down gulf drive, there was a large puddle in front of one of the motels and that was were i was walking when it happened. it was still dark out, but there were street lights...and i had on a bright coral long-sleeve, apparently not bright enough. an 18-wheeler, going much faster than necessary, hit that puddle like he had every intention to see how high he could make the puddle fly. i got soaked, and i my immediate reaction was to yell some unseemly things that should never be repeated. for an instant i considered returning to my car (i was about halfway through my walk, sopping wet, and a bit chilly), but i kept going...partly in hopes that the driver would have stopped ahead with engine problems and i might be able to get off a good throat punch and knee to the groin... i was driven for at least the next 7 minutes. then as approached the park, the sun was rising, and i was rewarded with the most beautiful sunrise! and a bit further down, i had to stop and take in the beach view, since it's been so long! then i made my way back to where i had parked, thankful that my car hadn't been towed.

i forgot treats, so they were not up for Easter pics...i'm sure everyone has experienced this with their families as well.

and for Easter, i listened to an online message and watched a special, then went over to do brunch with my friends shea and patrick. i took some mini brie/gruyere/carmelized onion quiches, and they had put together some eggs, bacon, and the 'piece de resistance' KANAKUK KAMP CoffeeCake! amazing!

we caught up for a bit, then i went home for a bit to take a nap, before reconvening with 3 other friends to do an egg-hunt with snacks, chit-chat, social distancing around the pool, and then patrick's homemade noodles with pesto! yummers! good to see the crew-safely.

the past few weeks have been an inspiring time to create my own cards and stationery because, as we know, i like to write letters, and at this time, the store really doesn't have much that suits my needs! plus, it's been a great outlet to use some pent-up creativity! (much inspired by a video that one of my friends shared with me!).

these are a few-i've already sent a few others out...spread the joy!

in other news, there have been some fun video conferences for work and play. and this afternoon, i was inspired to try whipped coffee-one of my friends posted a pic of hers, and i've had something saved because i'd been meaning to try it for quite sometime. i happened to find some instant decaf, and thought, 'JACKPOT!" because this meant i didn't have to go to the store! but unfortunately when i opened it, it had all disintegrated/melted together...something, but it was definitely not good. gosh, how long had i had that canister, yikes! so i did in fact have to go to the store...and in my hurry, i parked the car and realized that i had forgotten my debit card at home...(zero motivation to go back), so i fished around in my coin jar, and had $2, so i opted for the dollar general next door to get a mini-jar of instant coffee to do this thing!

 i made the first batch and spooned it over some iced-coffee- not bad...but i wasn't convinced. so i followed it up with a second batch and spooned it over coconut milk. i was pleased with the result!

again, i am grateful. thankful to have a job, a place to lay my head, my boys, friends, food, a sense of humor...i am fortunate and i don't want to take any good thing for granted.

almost a challenge-free summer...

i was positive that i would get through the entire summer without being tagged for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. but no. my dear friend brandy tagged me. at first i thought, "not sure i would've done it for anyone else." i think a lot of these things that people do are silly for a moment of fame. that's why i chose not to do it in front of  a bunch of our staff ...i didn't want it to be a spectacle. at first i was just going to do it because it was a challenge from brandy; then i thought about it a little more and here's what went through my head: i have or have had friends that are going through painful stuff- fibromyalgia, chrohn's. breast cancer, lung cancer, lymes, depression...in a HEARTBEAT i would do more than this for them. so, although i do not know anyone with Lou Gehrig's disease, after i saw this story, i know that the more people who are made aware of the disease, the better.

alright, i kinda had a moment and ran out of gas...and got busy before i was able to finish telling about my summer adventures. let's back on up to july 27th.

july 27th was a very bittersweet morning. i had to leave my cousin's house (sad face), but i was on my way to see brandy (yes, the afore-mentioned brandy, who felt the need to tag me in the challenge). brandy and i go way back. we were friends back when i lived in HONDURAS, and we've been back in touch over the last couple of years-which i have loved! so when the chance arose, it was so good to get the opportunity to visit with her!

we met for brunch with one of her dear friends, regyna, in d.c. i gave myself some extra time to find the place, and good thing i did because it was insane trying to find parking for sunday brunch! yikes. but i did...and when brandy and regyna arrived, we ordered the best brunch all you can eat/drink and then i got to sit back (only not literally as we were on stools and i would've fallen off), but i got to figuratively sit back and be entertained by some great stories! bad boyfriend stories, pink eye, and rude concert patrons...there was a lot of laughter! bummer that regyna had to go home, it was great to meet her because again, when you meet friends of friends, it adds a layer to who they are!

i followed brandy to her place, and it was an adorable apt. in a beautiful area. we took a long walk on the trail by her place, and it was beautiful! but more than a beautiful trail, conversation. oh how good it was to catch up-real. 

every once in awhile you just have to live!

 and then we when we got back, we began a sherlock marathon! (really brandy, alien cat? i suppose i should see him in blonde and see if i agree). on monday we had sushi, and that evening we had dinner with another friend brandy knew through recruiting, who was in town with her family. they were so gracious to treat us to dinner and amazing company-so fun!

it was a late night and i felt terrible that brandy had to get up at 3:30am; although i thoroughly enjoyed the amazing cup-o-coffee she brewed up! kept me awake on the way to dulles!

and now that it has made it back to my place, whenever i use it, i say a little prayer for ya!

there are so many things i love about brandy! amazing sense of humor, love for people, insightful, attention to detail, art-centric, adventurous, brave, strong...i could throw out a few more adjectives, but the point is i truly love having brandy as a friend, even if she did guilt me into the ALS bucket challenge! 

then when i left, it was pretty much straight back to mom and dad's and then back to dallas to get started with my school year again. we'll get into that on another day!

i just face-painted a squiggly line and a deformed shape on his face...his fault.

i agreed to help my friend this weekend by face-painting for a special event before my back started really hurting. but i'm glad i went because it was a wonderful fund-raiser for a young man who has a difficult disorder, and this will help him as he prepares for college.

face painting is open...sorry kid, you're going to have to stand because i can't kneel!

the paint was a little translucent, but in the end it worked, and it was the easiest for the kiddos to wash off!

next time, i think there should be a new rule next time. if the child is 4 or under, they only get squiggly lines and deformed shapes on their faces, because they move entirely too much and they don't know how to keep their face from twitching and going randomly from straight face to smile to frown within one try at a star. hmm.

there was another friend helping as well, and one of the girls came back after showing he face painting to mom and said, "i have to cheer at half-time, so i'm going to have to wash this one off." (the nice way of saying she wasn't thrilled).

on the way back, i stopped at the harmon's house to visit because i don't get up there often, but they weren't home. so i text their daughter, a dear friend, and found out they were out. so we made a brunch date to catch up today. i love the egg and i.the drive there seemed longer than it should have...not to belabor the issue, but the back is getting worse by the day-i am feeling every bump when i drive and it is difficult to move around and adjust myself in the seat. anyhoo, we were there forever, and it was so good to catch up!

while we were there, there was a couple in the far corner who obviously have been together for a long time...

yep, both reading their own novels....maybe they were having a book club...

that's the way to do it! avid readers-hopefully reading will give them something to talk about later...when the food arrives!

and i just saw xochitl's post-THE GIRL IS FINALLY ENGAGED!!! CONGRATULATIONS, FRIEND!!!
