what do boxtops and angel food cake have in common? nothing..i'm pretty sure boxtops are satan's idea of torture.

so...the plan was to be up and off by 7 am. BAHAHAHA! who was i kidding? no one but myself! i finally got everything packed up to go and felt like i was in college again, because i definitely packed dirty laundry that needed to be washed when i got to mom and dad's!

last night, all i could think about was stopping in to get a cinnabon. but this morning, when i pulled up, it was not open! boo. i guess that's what you get when shlotzky's and cinnabon partner up-no breakfast. so i ended up with einstein bro's instead, which was by far better for me. and we were off.

i really don't mind the drive, probably because i'm so used to it-being so close to kamp and what not...it was good to just contemplate in the car. the boys travel so well. (by well, i mean bruno lays in his car seat and chaco just sits there and looks at me with his wide-eyed 'i know we're going to see the demon cats' look-his words, not mine...i like the cats!).

anyhoo, on the car ride, i decided that i need to pray for my students. not like a hail mary, i hope they pass...more like individually for them. for their lives. for good things. i know that will change my attitude and give me even more of a vested interest in them. i want good things for them, even when i get frustrated and feel helpless.

after dinner, i got started on the task of reseparating the box tops because i had them divided incorrectly. 2650 box tops later...i really thought at the beginning of the year that this was going to be the responsibility of the recycling committee..cough,cough..lindsey.
arch rival
but life got better once mom put the angel food cake in the oven (she knows it's my favorite!) and of course, she has much more patience than i do. she put the thing on top of a bottle to let it drop from the pan...whereas me? i would take a fork and eat it as if out of a bowl...angel food bowl cake. yep..true story.
mom's the best!

and it was worth the wait for the glaze. this made up for stupid shlotzky's/cinnabon failing me this morning!
and when i came in to check on their computer and make sure it was still here, i saw these apple heads my dad started last time i was here to show to one of his friends.
if you remember ahile back when i was teaching my students what dehydrated meant, i made one of my own (check him out here-fun poses)..i'm pretty sure that i mentioned that he had taught me to make them when we were little...yes, instead of eating apples, we carve them..healthy family! i learned a lot from my parents!

bruno found the bag of treats..he's so smart.
can we? huh?huh?huh? can we? if you don't we'll start barking at the cats again.
jerks.

it's gonna be a dog eat cat...or cat scratch dog kind of a week.

i did NOT grab a little mexican...

friday night and i am home.
grabbed a little mexican after school (i didn't like...grab a little mexican,  i went to a mexican restaurant and had appetizers with friends).

this has been a crazy week at school. today finished off with an observation of one of our new intern-teachers at school (you're doing a great job xochitl!) and she had to turn around and observe me, and when we were done she was laughing because she saw my mini salt, and then she knew it was true! i couldn't make this stuff up! (wouldn't that be cheap if i just imported pics off the internet or something. rude.)

and i just got great news-one of my friends from HONDURAS just had a baby. Congratulations Carla! i cannot wait to meet Alejandra! and more good news, my friend bmayes just passed a bar. (without feeling the need to go in...it's been 4 years, 3 days and 2 hours....j/k) i say she just passed a bar because she already passed her first bar exam in TX, now she has passed it in OK as well!! CONGRATULATIONS B! brilliant and funny. i am like David Ogilvy (advertising), i like to surround myself with people who are brighter than myself!

remember how i started out with the apple about a week or so ago? welllllll...drum roll please...or if you have a cinnamon roll, i would much prefer that...

he's puckering up. sick.
renowned author...

who doesn't need a starbucks jolt once in awhile? he just likes to get his pic taken...

i finished him just in the nick of time-because he saved the easter bunny from certain impending doom!
and there you have it, i am so glad that he is finished! now i can put him in a cupboard somewhere and let him fulfill his creepiness. perhaps i will bring him to school monday so that the kids can experience a dehydrated apple.

the easter bunny in this pic came from a dear friend in kansas city. when i lived there, they would invite me over, and one year i got to spend the most beautiful easter with their family! her mom is better than martha stewart! soooo much kinder and more motherly. martha kinda scares me. (and she did time..scar-y)

and on that note, hollie, my sister-in-law has once again created some very cute and simple easter-inspired ideas! you can check them out here. hope you enjoy-she has some great photography as well!

The best ideas come as jokes. Make your thinking as funny as possible.

it's the miniature things in life!

lunch time!! ok, i've been shaking this miniature salt shaker my mom "borrowed" from their time share-she gave it to me because i thought it was so cute (and she didn't want to get caught red handed: five-finger-discount)..so here i am now, trying it out and i have to shake for 5 minutes to get the salt to find the one little cyclops hole to come out of...i like salt aLOT, therefore one granule per minute is not going to cut it. cute but no practical (thanks mom, but i think i will start stocking packets from mcdonalds).  yep, i thought it was cute, because i think all most things miniature ARE cute, hence the yorkie decision (i mean if they were 5 ft tall, they would not be nearly as cute...in fact, they'd be downright scary).

my mom called last night and i mentioned that i started a blog. "why did you do that?" it's funny, because i never really thought about doing it, but i know people used to enjoy getting letters because i express myself in my own unique voice; so why not make a blog so that people can read the mundane, inconsequential, irrelevant things that happen from day to day (it's usually what i include in my letters!).

last night i looked around and realized i had a bunch of bananas and apples and watermelon that still needed to be gotten rid of, so more dehydrating! (tonight hopefully i can finish the bananas and watermelon).

i had so many apples that i decided it would be a good idea to use one of them to make something that my dad used to do a long time ago when i was a 4th grader!  so i decided to carve an apple!

my apple with no blemishes!

handy dandy little peeler from mom..into the garbage disposal! i am soooo excited b/c i got it fixed over spring break (sounds like it was spayed)

i know, right now he kinda looks like an apple-head-super-hero...

amazing how a little electrical tape can animate a hanger

i know...it doesn't look like much now, but when it finishes drying, i will present to you a grandpa in a black leather outfit! (ok, pleather...). hopefully he'll start getting small enough that i can put him in the dehydrator, right now he doesn't fit on the shelf...big-headed! i am not quite certain what i will do with him when he is finished...maybe it will be one of those student prizes; they think everything is cool at that age.

well, off to finish the 3/4 watermelon and bananas!
